Teaser Tuesday

Hello once again, readers!

Is it Tuesday again, already? Only nine more days until Christmas! Nine more days until my kids can finally see what Santa brought them, and I can finally sit back and relax.

Keeping surprises is a hard thing for me. I suck at it actually. I get so excited and anxious for the other person to know what I have in store for them, that I usually end up making them open presents early or talk them into hearing the surprise before it has a chance to happen.

I know. It’s a horrible habit.

But I am getting better at it. I haven’t given the kids any of their presents to open yet. Mostly because I can’t, because Santa brings them. I haven’t even told my very best friend Sonya Loveday what I got her. And that’s a feat.

(I did try to though.)

But I digress.

It’s another Teaser Tuesday, so here’s another snippet from Everlost (which is coming along quite nicely, I might add).

“You’re awake,” he says, blinking sluggishly, looking at Jaxen.

“It appears that way,” Jaxen shoots back, sitting next to me so he can slide his boots on.

“And you’re still an ass too, I see,” Weldon says as he drags his way across the room. He plops down onto the armchair by the window, leaning the hand with the glass over the edge of the arm. “A small ‘Weldon, my hero, thank you for saving my ass’ would be nice.”

Jaxen looks at him flatly. Stands. Slides a flux through the leather binding. “Thank you,” he says dryly.

Weldon lazily lifts a lone brow, his lip twitching at the corner, trying to hide a smile.

“And you’re my hero,” Jaxen adds, smiling now.

The left side of Weldon’s mouth lifts up into a weak attempt at a smirk, and then disappears. He pinches his forehead between his fingers and rubs, shaking his head. “I’m getting too old for this shit.”

“Too old?” I ask, looking at his clean-shaven, smooth-as-a-baby face.

Weldon drops his hand and looks up at me as if I’m insulting him. “Yes. I’ll be 46 this year, and you’ve got me running around like a damn teenager. My bones are brittle. My age is catching up to me.” He rubs at his lower back, and I can’t help but laugh.

“Well, you don’t look 46,” I say. “And I don’t think your age is catching up to you either.”

He stops rubbing his back and looks over at his empty cup with a pout. “You’re right. I was just playing the sympathy card. Fetch me a drink?”

I blink. “Me?”

“No, the Faye behind you. Yes you,” he says, shoving the glass at me. “I need to have a little chit-chat with our boyfriend.”

And scene! Please, bear with me. This is all unedited (first draft stuff).

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Love me some Weldon.

If I don’t write again, have a great Christmas!

Teaser Tuesday

Hello once again, readers!

It’s been awhile since I’ve written. Blame it on NaNo WriMo… which I did complete by the way.

So what if it was just barely lol with a mere 51k.

I chose to work on Everlost (Night Watchmen, #3), since I had only just finished and published Evernight. I figured it would give me a good nudge to work through the holidays so I can get the third book out as soon as possible. And, even though it was like pulling teeth trying to force myself to sit down and commit every day, I did it.

But I digress.

I’m now 59k in, with a goal of at least 100k. My first drafts never reach 100k due to all the detail I go back and add after my first read through, so I’d say I’m close to 70% done with the first draft.

Can I get a woohoo?

Any who, if you haven’t finished Evernight, you might not want to read what’s below. It’s not a complete spoiler, but it does sort of hint on something that is addressed at the end of book two. So you might want to hurry up and read Evernight.

That being said, here is the teaser:

** SPOILER ALET **

This isn’t going to end well.

She isn’t supposed to be here, outside this house, across the yard, staring at me like I’m a two-headed vampire about to suck the life from her veins. Her words aren’t supposed to be so intoxicating. Her gaze isn’t supposed to be the kind that glues you in place, turning your brain to mush and your instincts to that of a moth to a flame.

Evangeline Gramm… the woman who escaped the infamous Gramm Curse. The mother who so easily abandoned her two boys. The Witch who has passed under the Primeval Coven’s radar longer than anyone ever thought possible.

She could be our worst nightmare… or she could be the key to finding our salvation.

I thought the worst had come to pass the night we barely escaped from Ethryeal City. We were officially shunned from the Coven under Clara’s orders, Jaxen had been wounded, and we weren’t any closer to bringing Clara down.

But none of that can touch the look on Jaxen’s face when he found his mother standing feet away from him, with an army we never saw coming behind her.

And I’m not sure what’s going to happen now. I’m not sure he’s ready to face his past… the same way I’m not ready to face my future.

But being born a Primeval means that pain isn’t an option—it’s a standard. We can’t escape it. There’s no silver lining in our line of work. There aren’t any small miracles that can relieve us from this hell.

There’s just fear and determination.

That’s it. That’s all we have to drive us forward.

I just hope this time we make it through.

And scene.

This is actually the prologue. The opening scene. It’s vague, but not so vague that you’re like, “Huh?” Like I said, it’s not a real spoiler… but for those of you who have read Evernight, you know what I’m trying to say.

In other news, the cover for Everlost is complete! It’s amazing, and everything I asked for when talking the idea over with Ravven. I’m working on the blurb right now and will be setting up the cover reveal within the next few weeks (as I near the end of the first draft).

The holidays are a crazy busy time for everyone.

Hope to write you soon.
