Teaser Tuesday

Hello once again, readers!!!

It’s teaser Tuesday which means I’m going to share a teaser from Everlasting! I’m still working on The Gramm Curse, the novella in Jaxen’s POV in the Night Watchmen series, so it will be a little bit before I start sharing teasers from that. I’m over halfway through it now though so yay!

But I digress.

Here is the teaser:

You can find Everlasting on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

And scene.

Hope you enjoyed! Going back to the writing cave now. Wish me luck!

Everlasting is LIVE!

What if your destiny lay on the other side of death?

The annual Culling ceremony is a day every coming-of-age novice looks forward to within the Primeval Coven. It’s the start to being initiated into the Night Watchmen, humankind’s protectors, and it’s the long-awaited day when novices discover if they’re a Hunter or a Witch.

But this day is not a happy one for Faye Middleton. Not when she’s known her whole life that she’s a Defect and is about to face banishment in front of her fellow novices. She’s forced to attend the Culling with little hope for her future, but what she discovers about herself is far worse than she could’ve imagined. And far more dangerous.

Thrown into training and separated from her friends, Faye must learn to adjust. She struggles to find her place within the Coven, and with Jaxen Gramm, the darkly handsome and extremely unnerving man assigned to watch and protect her. Emotions run high, and when she discovers a deadly secret about him, her struggles deepen. As corruption within the Coven begins to unravel, Faye pieces together her role in saving the future of her people, and within Jaxen’s life…but will the truth save her, or be her undoing?

GENRE: Paranormal Romance

Available on Amazon & Barnes & Noble!

“This way,” Nathaniel says from the side of the stage. We’re like cows being herded into individual pens to await sacrifice. There are closed-in cubicles constructed backstage, and each of us is placed in one without a word of guidance or encouragement.

“Wait a second,” I say as I try to scan down the row one last time for Katie, but I’m shoved into my cubicle and the door shuts, enclosing me in between four confining walls with only the light of a lamp. I drag my hands down the fabric of the walls until I fall down into my seat. I tug on my braid again and again and again. Calm down. Breathe. Calm down. I chant this over and over again, imagining that Katie’s the one who’s coaching me. I shut my eyes and am back in her room. The scent of her perfume overwhelms the small space, but instead of making me sneeze, it comforts me. It makes my imagined state more real.

I hear loud clapping coming from off the stage and know someone must’ve just gone. They obviously weren’t a Defect. No one wants a Defect at their ceremony. A voice shouts, “Let’s go, Todd Jenson. It’s time to meet your partner.” I wonder if it was Katie on stage. I wonder if he’s her partner. I wonder this through eighteen more times worth of clapping and cheering and name calling. Anytime now, they’ll open my door and force me to stand before the crowd, force me to touch the quartz, force me to face my peers in shame. If they deem me a Defect, I’ll be the first this Culling, and most likely the only.

I twist my hands into knots and think about my parents. They have to be out there by now. I’m going to walk out there and they’re going to be in the front row smiling. I open my eyes. Four walls. They’re closing in on me. They’re suffocating me. I have to get out.

“Faye Middleton?” The door opens and air rushes in. I draw sharply on it as the cheering continues. Another novice and her new partner walk off stage. It’s the girl with black hair. She’s coyly looking at him from under her lashes. He looks pissed.

Nathaniel guides me forward, and I want to yank my arm from him. I want to tell him I left my courage back in that cubicle, but I don’t. I can’t. My lips are glued shut by fear. My knees have turned into two extremities of doubt, and I know I’m going to fall. I’m going to forget how to speak.

Steel blue eyes find mine from across the stage. Elder Maddock. He bows ever so slightly in my direction, his eyes seeking past my outer appearance. I wonder if he knows who I am. He has to. I stop right before him and feel like a bird trapped in a cage. I can’t escape the thousands of eyes studying me. I can’t escape the hundreds of assumptions building me into something I’m not.

“Faye Middleton,” he says, his voice eager and curious. There’s a friendly lightness in his voice I don’t expect, a sound that makes me feel safe and comfortable under his gaze. He has thick, golden brown hair combed neatly over to the side and back, showing off the squared planes of his face. He looks much younger than he should, but older than my father. “Are you ready to begin?”

I turn to the crowd and scan desperately for my parents. Eyes. There are so many eyes. Too many. They form together, creating an awful monster that wants to swallow me whole. I can’t find them. The eyes have hidden them from me. I’m all alone. I try to swallow, but my mouth is so dry. I bite the inside of my cheek, curbing the need to release tears.

The Witch standing next to him says, “Faye, he asked you a question.”

I take in a tight breath and force myself to look away and back at Maddock. “I’m sorry,” I whisper, my stomach twisting a little tighter.

He pretends not to notice the panic I’m sure my face is masked in and offers me the kindest, most patient smile. “Everyone is nervous on the day of the Culling,” he says knowingly. “I was a wreck the day of mine.”

Polite laughter comes from the audience, and I feel myself relax just enough so that I can breathe again.

He offers me a small wink…a knowing sort of wink, and says, “Your parents will be proud.” He says these words carefully, evenly, and I know he’s trying to tell me something. They’re okay? He’s aware of who I am. “So are you ready to begin?”

In the Works

BookmarksHello once again readers! How goes it? It’s pretty darn hot here in Florida! Like crazy melt-when-you-step-outside hot. I’ve considered buying one of those hats that has the built-in fan on the rim, but haven’t found a fan small enough yet. Okay, so maybe not. I haven’t even looked. The idea just came to me, but I bet I would be happier if I did look for one.

I digress.

So my bookmarks for Embracing the Flames are in and I have to say they are just as stunning as the ones made up for Born in Flames. And no…I am not partial…okay, maybe a little bit. o_O.

Any who, the release party was a success! It was a lot of fun too! So many people turned up…way more than I expected to see. It was refreshing and humbling to have so many interested and supportive of the release! There were around 14 prizes given out and tons of games that kept us on our toes. I was exhausted by the end of the night and found out that Embracing the Flames made it into the top 100 in the fairytales category on Amazon.

Oh snap!

Now that Embracing the Flames is out and on its way, I have From the Embers left to prepare. I’ve signed the contract with my publisher and am currently making a few small changes in the story before it goes off to the editor this week. I am anxious to hear her thoughts on how everything came together…seeing that it’s a trilogy and all.

I can’t believe I am that close to being done with the trilogy.

Born in Flames is about to be out in print and my publisher said soon after, Embracing the Flames will be released in print too. So many good things happening I can barely contain my excitement! I am looking forward to the future and all that it holds in store for me. And for the bookfest coming up in August!

With that being said, I will leave you with a question: How’s it going?

Art For The Soul ♥

Hello once again, Readers!!! How goes it? I can tell you, my brain hurts. My NaNo is finally caught up (wrote a little over 5k today). I am really sick, so I spent the past couple of days resting trying to kick this nasty cold. I’m on the upside now…I think…so I just wanted to show you a couple more pictures of my art that will be on sale through our website and at the craft fair this Saturday in Polo Park. I’m hoping I’ll be well by then. Sheesh.

Any who, here are some photos:

This one actually just sold, so I am going to try to paint something similar to take to the fair.

Fly free.

Dreaming Butterflies.

Magical Owl.

I’m finishing up a christmas themed one and am hoping to get a few more done before tomorrow. We shall see.

Wish me luck! And good luck to all those still writing for NaNo!!

Fall Festival Success

Hello once again, Readers!!! My week of cool weather is gone, but the good news is I had a Butterbeer this weekend. Yay me!

So a couple of weekends ago we carved pumpkins before watching Dexter (sadly, I’m just now posting this). My son wanted a cat pumpkin so my husband and I worked together to make the one on the left look like a cat. What do you think…lol?

The other two pumpkins belong to my friends who come over every Sunday to watch Dexter with us (they are expecting, hence the stork). The best part of that night though, was Scarlett. She couldn’t care less about the pumpkins which I had hoped would be a fun, family activity. I tried to get her to help pull the insides out, but she said, “EWW!” She decided to play in the sand instead. By play I mean, throw dirt into the air and let it rain upon her golden locks. Silly girl.

But I digress.

So the Fall Festival was a success! I passed out a ton of bookmarks! We also sold the most merchandise ever! Five of my paintings, a few bracelets, a spoon ring, some hair clips, and we even a piece of our set-up. It was a pretty decent night with a lot of smiles passed our way.

Here are some pictures of stuff left over that we will be taking to our next shin-dig next weekend:

One of the Born in Flames necklaces.

A bottle full of wishes.

An oil painting I did.

But there is so much more. We have created tons of unique necklaces. We have spoon rings, button bracelets, charm bracelets, cork charm pieces to hang from your rearview mirror or christmas trees, ornaments, snow globes, paintings, shadow boxes, you name we made it. We’ve also decided to start doing house party’s and have planned our first for December 1st! Just in time for Christmas.

So that’s one portion of my life.

The other part: NaNo and the Flames trilogy. I am over 8K as of today and currently working on From the Embers which is 18k in (once I post this). I devote the morning to NaNo and the evening to From the Embers. So far so good…but it is only day 5. We shall see if I can continue. I have hope and faith so cross your fingers.

To all of my fellow NaNo’s…hang in there and keep your chin up! Keep writing! Try to stray from over thinking. Same old same old.

Okay…back to work.

Swag-a-licious Author Signing ♥

Hello once again Readers!!! What’s that? I’ve been bitten!!? Oh-my-God!!

I’M A ZOMBIE!!!!! A blood-thirsty, pale-as-Edward, Zombie! Somebody grab an axe…oh wait, on second thought don’t. That might hurt.

Okay so I’m not a Zombie, but I sure did a good make-up job! My husband’s friend from work had a Halloween party on Sunday that was Zombie themed so of course I had to dress up. I LOVE dressing up! I even talked my husband into letting me paint him up too! He wasn’t too fond of the corn syrup blood mixture though. I wasn’t either after the mosquitoes discovered I was covered in sugar…eeesh.

But I digress.

I have a few things that I wanted to share with you today. I contemplated breaking the news up for multiple posts, but I am too excited to wait. So first off, for those of you who don’t know what swag is, here is the definition via The Free Dictionary:

2. Promotional items, especially when given for free, considered as a group.
Now that, that is settled, what the hizzle am I talking about? I am taking about Born in Flames freebies people. Well, not all of it is free, but I have a ton of stuff made and ordered for the promotion of this novel!
I was able to score flyers, pens, magnets, notepads, and window decals all for the cost of shipping. How is that for extreme couponing??! I’ve also ordered a bundle of bookmarks for an insanely low price that has recently been delivered and will accompany me to my very first Author signing!!!!Wait a minute, did you just say Author signing?? Yes indeedy, I sure did. It will be held in Celebration, FL from 2pm to 8pm. Sonya and I are also set up and ready to go to sell merchandise from Fae Tis Moor. We have Wish necklaces, paintings, Born in Flames necklaces (pictures coming soon), hand painted journals, Fairies-in-a-Jar, bracelets, and so much more! I will be doing a follow-up post with all the pics from the fair as well as the merchandise left over in case any one is interested.
Wish me luck my friends! I am hoping for a good turn out! Embracing the Flames is on its way. I can’t wait to begin the process to publication. The blurb is finished so I thought I would share it with you:

The Stone of Immortality has been protected under the watch of the Draconta for as long as time has existed. That is, until the betrayal of a Fate. Now everything is about to change.

Aurora Megalos accepted her destiny without blinking-even if it meant succumbing to her dragon side. Deemed the Progeny, she left the ordinary life she knew and has done everything in her power to learn the ways of her new realm and what it means to be part dragon. But when her mentor, Astral, suddenly disappears, she is forced to take the reins. With war on the brink, she sets out on an epic journey to not only find her mentor, but to stop her Arch Enemy, Zordon, from attaining the Stone of Immortality. But what she discovers about him along the way is far worse than she could’ve ever imagined. She will be tested and pushed to the limit. Lives will be lost, love will be questioned, and a battle will begin.

It’s the first step. Next will be the cover (sometime after or during editing?), oh snap!! I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about that.

But any who, thanks for stopping in. Now to leave you with a question: What temperature is it where you are and how do you feel about that? Okay…so maybe that’s two questions, but whatevs.

Peace out Peeps,

Echelon out ♥
