Hello once again, readers!!!
Guess what?! It’s WIP Wednesday. Better known as hump day! *cue whistles and hand clapping*
But I digress.
I’m going to get right to it because I’m still in the middle of writing and I don’t want to spend too much time away from the manuscript. I am, however, 46k into Evernight now! Woot!
*High five from afar!*
Any who. Here’s a small snippet from the chapter I worked on yesterday. Please remember this is pre-edits:
“You,” he says, stopping in front of Gavin. “You’re the go-to, aren’t you? The man with the plan? The one everyone turns to, correct?”
Gavin smiles confidently. “What can I say? I know how to deliver,” he says.
Modesty isn’t his strong point.
The General nods to himself. “You don’t really have any fears, do you?”
Gavin shrugs a little. “Nothing that I can rattle off the top of my head,” he says with a grin, shoving his hands in his pocket. I can see the balloon labeled ego inflating over top of his head, just waiting to be popped.
“And you’re confident in yourself and your abilities,” the General continues, guiding him to a point I’m sure Gavin is unaware of.
Gavin pulls his hand out of his pocket, straightening out his shoulders. “I haven’t failed yet.” He jerks his head around when Jezi and Cassie cough, and squints at them.
Weldon’s chin drops as he tries to hide his smile.
“And that is precisely your problem,” the General says, ending Gavin’s little bout of pride and the girls laughter. “You’re so wrapped up in your own ego that you fail to see your own weaknesses. You concern yourself with the rest of these cream puffs, feeding off of being the one they look up to, and thinking that you’re untouchable.”
“Walked right into that one,” Weldon says low enough so only me and Jaxen can hear him.
The General takes a step closer to Gavin who’s brows are scrunched. “There’s a thin line between intelligence and stupidity when it comes to confidence, and that line is labeled doubt. The smart ones are the ones who consistently question what they are doing, and why they are doing it. And the dumb ones, well, you can guess where I’m going with this. They, like you, think everything will work out smoothly and never question anything.”

And scene! It’s lesson time from the big dogs…something Gavin and Jaxen haven’t dealt with in a looooong time.
Thanks for stopping by! I can’t wait to finish and share this with you all!
That being said,
