12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop

Blog Hop:  12 Days of Christmas

Event Date:  December 1st  – 12th 2013

Hosted by: As You Wish Reviews & Confessions of the Paranormal
Sponsors: As You Wish Tours & Book Dragon Designs

Hello once again, readers!! Today my blog is apart of the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop put together by As You Wish Tours. We are supposed to spotlight one of our own books, so I’m going with Born in Flames, book one in the Born in Flames Trilogy.

But before we get to that, I want to share a giveaway with you since it is the season of giving! I will make it easy for you, because I am good like that. And because you rock.

No seriously, you do.

All you have to do is like & comment on this post for an entry. You can gain an extra entry by sharing the post. The more the merrier.

You want me to do what? What do I get?

One lucky winner will win not one, not two, but THREE ebooks! All three ebooks in the Born in Flames Trilogy to be exact! The contest will run through December 16th and a winner will be announced that Monday. Good luck to all who participate.

Any who, now I have to share my favorite Christmas cookie recipe. To be honest, I don’t bake (unless you consider buying pre-made cookie dough and throwing it in the oven baking). That’s about as far as I get into it lol. I know, shameful. But if I did bake, I would totally make these. They look scrumptious!

Favorite Christmas cookie recipe: Cran-Pistachio Cookies

Recipe and photo found from: The Girl Who Ate Everything

  • 1 (1 lb  1.5 ounce) pouch Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix
  • 1 box  (4 serving size) pistachio instant pudding and pie filling mix
  • 1/4 cup  flour
  • 1/2 cup  butter, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup  dry roasted salted pistachio nuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup  dried cranberries, chopped
  • optional – green food coloring (I didn’t add any but if  you wanted them extra green you could)

  1. Preheat  oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In  a large bowl stir cookie mix, pudding, and flour. Add melted butter and eggs and  stir until incorporated.
  3. Add  pistachios and cranberries and mix well.
  4. Drop  by rounded spoonfuls onto a parchment lined cookie sheet and slightly flatten  with fingertips.
  5. Bake  for 8-10 minutes. The only way you can ruin these cookies is to overbake them!  If you bake them too long you will lose the soft texture and they won’t be as  green. They will not look done but take them out and let them sit on the pan for  about 2 minutes. Trust me.
  6. Cool  on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container. Makes about 2 dozen  cookies.

Now for the fun stuff-the Born in Flames spotlight:

(donated book to hop)

Red mirrored scales race up my arms as the haze of pain blurs my vision. My bones crack, breaking to realign. I scream. It is then that the realization of my unavoidable fate sinks in; I am of a dying race. I am dragon.

Aurora Megalos, orphaned and teetering on the edge of adulthood, thought finding her past would curb the sting of being an outcast. Having no memories of the time before she awoke on her foster mother’s doorstep, she yearns for the emptiness inside her to be filled. With her fellow orphaned best friend, Fenn, by her side, she has nothing to lose and everything to gain. But something powerful stirred within her that she couldn’t explain. Something wanted out.

In the dark of night, a crazed Seer erases everything she’s ever known with an impending prophecy. She now faces two paths. Return to her true home to protect a dying race against a growing evil, or stay hidden in the safety of our realm with a shot at a true love. With a vengeful Arch Enemy stopping at nothing to see her dead, she’s running out of time; a decision must be made. What would you choose?

Available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble in ebook or paperback.

Here is a small excerpt:

THE CALL OF THE ORB was strong now that it rested in my hands. A song thrummed in my chest as I felt the veins in my neck beating wildly. Looking at it now, the change wasn’t as scary as I had thought it would be. Even with knowing that I could be staring my possible death in the face. The question was—would I be strong enough to sustain these powers given to me? Maybe I was just scared of The Fates choosing my destiny, or maybe I was scared that what was about to happen would forever change my life. Either way, growing up I had always hoped that my life would mean something more than just being a foster child, but this, this was much bigger than anyone could imagine. And what lies ahead? Well if it’s anything compared to what I am going through now, then I expect my life to fall into a whole new level of crazy. And I think it may be just what I was looking for.

And scene!

This was the first novel I ever wrote, and I wrote it back in 2009. It is my baby and the one that started it all. The book that launched a thousand books-har har. I don’t think I could ever write a thousand books, but it was the beginning to a path I was always destined for. I love writing. It has been my saving grace. Just when I thought I had reached my potential, that my life would be nothing more than working for a company hoping for a raise and waiting for the endless five o’clock to arrive, writing came along and swept me off my feet.

I haven’t looked back since.

It’s magical, finding your dreams. It’s something I can never get enough of, even when I am dead a$$ tired. I eat, sleep, and dream about my characters and their stories, and I have all of my fans to thank for continuing to support and follow me on this amazing journey.

Grand Prize: $150 Amazon Gift Card or Paypal Cash
First Prize: One (1) eBook from Every Participating Author

Unremarkable (Anything But #2) Cover Reveal by Lindy Zart

Hello once again, readers!!! Today I have the privilege of showcasing the cover reveal for Lindy Zart’s latest novel in the Anything But series, Unremarkable! Check it out:

Unremarkable (Anything But #2)

Thrust into a reality that should be myth, Honor does what she has to do to survive. Some things are easy to say goodbye to. Others things, like her very being, are not so easy to let go of. And when she does, what then? What will she become?

As Honor fights to survive and to remain unaltered when everything around her, including her, has been, she is met with adversaries and champions. Ryder, Christian, Nealon—they all have a goal. Only Honor doesn’t know if their goals coincide with hers, or Superior August’s and the UDK society.

One thing she does know: the world isn’t big enough for all of them.

I’ve been writing since I was a wee lass. I was reading before that; possibly while still in the womb. Don’t think about that too much.

I started out with short horror stories and poetry. I was terrible at it. The poems not so much, but the stories were awful.

I decided to finish a book (and I DO mean finish–I’d started plenty throughout the years) when I was in my mid-twenties (so not that long ago because I’m young and will forever stay that way). Again, not my best work.

But that’s the thing about writing; it improves with time. (It’s also a good thing to know your work can’t possibly be any worse than it was when you first started.)

What I love most about writing is having people tell me how much they enjoy my work; how my writing touches them; makes them feel intensely.

Bringing a reader to laughter or tears is a wonderful feeling for a writer, and no, I’m not sadistic. *insert evil laugh HERE* It means I got them to feel, to respond to something I created.

Also, I just like to make stuff up and put it down on paper. I have an endless supply of stories in my head; lots of stuff to share with the world.

Happy Reading!

Giveaway & Teaser Tuesday: Everlasting

everlasting_promoHello once again, readers!

It’s teaser Tuesday! I’ve done WIP Wednesday, but haven’t tried teaser Tuesday yet. I’m not sure what qualifies as a teaser as far as length though, so I hope you’re happy with what I’ve chosen as my teaser today.

But before we get to that, I wanted to share the giveaway with you. I’ve started it up for almost reaching 3500 likes on Facebook. When the page hits that number, the giveaway will end. Here is the rafflecopter link if you want to join in. There is a Born in Flames paperback, as well as eCopies up for grabs.

Now for the teaser:

“How did you get past the force that prevents novices from using their powers outside of the classroom?” He drops his hands and takes a step back, looking at me. Really looking at me. Like I was an equal.

I shrug a little and think back to the incident. “I’m not sure, really. I felt it trying to stop me, but I pushed it back. I was too dead set on beating Chett down.” Just saying those words fills me with a sense of regret. Though I felt Katie had been righted, I still knew better. I still knew it could’ve been handled better.

“It was impressive,” he admits. He rubs at the dark stubble on his jaw line, glancing down at the floor.

“I shouldn’t have done it.” I hate saying it out loud. I hate admitting I was wrong, especially when it had felt so good at the time.

“No. You shouldn’t have,” he agrees. My eyes drop to the floor. There’s an odd pattern in the marble that almost looks like a butterfly if you look from the right angle. His hand brushes against mine, and I jump. When I meet his gaze, his lips are turned up into an impossibly handsome smile. The second smile I’ve seen in a matter of hours. I was charting new territory with him.

“You’re smiling again,” I say softly, enjoying the feel of his touch as his hand continues up my arm.

“I am,” he agrees. The way he is looking at me steals my breath and sends my heart racing. So much passion, so much longing. His hand stops on my neck, gripping me with a gentle firmness. “I’ve never encountered anyone like you, Faye. You’re strong and brave and true. You’re intoxicating, and you don’t even realize it. And you’re making it impossibly hard to resist you. To resist whatever is happening between us.”

“So then why try to?”

As if awakened by my words, he pulls me against him, his eyes roaming over my lips. I let myself touch his chest, enjoying the way his heart pounds like mine beneath the soft material of his shirt. Almost as if we are one. We stand there, not moving or speaking, just being. He leans forward, and I think he’s going to kiss me. I will him to. But then the door in the other room bursts opens, stealing away a moment that never really had hope to begin with.

And scene. This scene is between the main characters Jaxen and Faye after a blowout in the dining hall at the academy. Obviously, Faye had fought with someone, but I can’t say who or why. This is a defining moment for her though because she not only alerts the entire academy to her unique power, but she also proves to herself that she is more fierce, more strong than she ever thought possible. And she also learns that Jaxen is into her, that she hadn’t read the signals wrong. And that she has the ability to make someone so closed off from everyone else smile.

After I thought I had finished this novel, I worked with an author friend for beta reading and found that I had actually written three plots into one book. So I decided to break the book in three, and started expanding more into the world and the characters in book one. This process, though new to me, has been an enlightening process. I can feel myself growing as a writer. I am so excited about this project. I can’t wait to share it with you.

That being said, Echelon out. ♥

Crazy’s My Middle Name

923553_10200591243457400_971928324_nHello once again, Readers!!! I’m just going to jump right into things because this past week has been an emotional rollercoaster for me. It started off normal, and then all of sudden the rug was pulled out from under me. My husband’s brother was in a very bad car accident. And he lives over 1100 miles away from us.

It was one of the scariest phone calls I have ever received and it resulted in rushing to book two flights out for the next day for my husband and me, while trying to set everything up for my children to be taken care of by my bestie and mom.  Around midnight. Thankfully I have such a great support system. They helped me tremendously.

Long story short, my BIL is alive and healing up. I can’t tell you how good it is to day that because for a minute there, we weren’t sure. I won’t get into all the gory details, but I will say that he is extremely lucky to be alive. He must have an angel on his shoulder and I am so glad we were able to be there for him and to see his face alive and smiling.

Any who, now onto Born in Flames news. First off, the tour has kicked off with an awesome start. Great reviews, fun interviews, and music galore! I am very pleased and excited with how things are coming along. If you want to see for yourself, check out this post I did previously with all the dates and stops.

Also, when I finally made it home (after four crazy days of being in another state), I came back to two special packages. One being from an insanely sweet fan who created and mailed necklaces to me all the way from England!! And another was from Next Day Flyers who I ordered my second round of bookmarks from. Here are the necklaces:

Aren’t they just gaw-geous!!!?? So exciting!!! I can’t wait to find ways to give them away! It is the first thing a fan has ever made for me. Kind of tears me up a bit. I am extremely grateful to have the wonderful fans in my life who love and understand my story. I can’t wait to share book two with them!

Here are the bookmarks I ordered:

That’s 500 right there. I will be ordering the Embracing the Flames bookmarks next all in preparation for the Bookfest in August. And that’s about it for now. I’m still in the process of editing From the Embers. It’s crazy how my writing has changed and grown since Born in Flames. I’ve learned so much from the editors and just from writing and reading.

But I digress…

Now to leave you with a question: What would you do for a Klondike bar?

Giveaway Time…Again!!

Hello once again, Readers!! What?! Cute, cuddly, tickle-me-please baby feet are the featured photo on my blog today?!? Could that mean….

I am happy with my two crazy, loud, full-of-energy children. I’m afraid if I had another, I would for sure need to be admitted into a loony bin.

Just sayin’.

A very close friend that my husband and I have known since we were kids just had his first child on Wednesday (well his wife had him). I am so freaking excited about this, you have no idea. The baby was a healthy, 8lb 5oz boy delivered in the afternoon. Perfection.

This is such a revelation for me because none of our friends have had kids yet. Well, except for Sonya, but her kids were older when we met and became besties. This is my first experience with someone other than myself having a baby. And it was just as magical. I just wanted to congratulate my friends. They did a wonderful job and I am very proud of them.

But I digress. On to the reason you are here.

The initial Facebook giveaway of 500 likes was a success. We reached it, found a winner, and I have gained a bunch of new friends and followers that I converse with daily because of it. Not to mention the advertising and sales that have stemmed. It was so successful, that I’ve decided to bump it up a notch to reach 1000 likes. And rather than sending you to my Facebook page to join in the fun, I am posting the giveaway on this blog so you can enter and reblog! If you so please, that is.

Follow this link to enter for your chance and to reveal the AWESOME prizes:
a Rafflecopter giveaway

Nice right? I thought so myself.

In other news, I should have a cover reveal coming sometime this week after my publisher sends me the completed files. I am SO excited to share it with you all. It sticks to the same theme as the Born in Flames cover, but with a new twist! Eek!

That being said, Echelon out!

Born in Flames- 2012 Turning the Pages Books “Book of the Year” Winner!

Hello once again, Readers!!! Guess who won Book of the Year over at Turning the Pages Books!!!??? Excuse me while I do some cart-wheels and run in circles… :)

Okay, I’m back. And out of breath.

It was a close race, and I never expected to win, but the Readers have chosen! I am So. Freaking. Excited! Does this mean that I can call my novel “award-winning”?? I couldn’t wait to tell my son. He has been asking me about it for like the past five days. Every day he says, “Mother, did you win?” (Yes my six-year-old calls me mother…lol). So you can imagine when I found out last night, after his bedtime, how hard it was for me to wait until this morning. His grin this morning before school was the best part of this whole thing. I made him proud!

Okay now I’m tearing up. I digress.

And to make it even more exciting, I am going to be on a Blog Talk Internet Radio Show with Fran Lewis on March 14th to talk about Born in Flames! Woot! (I am extremely nervous about this just because I’ve never done it before…so I’m crossing my fingers it goes well). Thank you for believing in me and for supporting my debut novel! I hope that it’s only up from here!

But I digress once more.

In other, exciting news, I am still holding a BIG giveaway on my Facebook page for when I reach 500 Likes. So far, the first prize I have revealed is a $25 Amazon gift card. Cha-ching! My current tally is sitting at 388 Likes so there is plenty of time to Like and try to win! For every 50 Likes up until I reach 500, I am giving away an ecopy of my novel. Exciting stuff.

Hopefully the cover will soon be complete for Embracing the Flames and then a new round of excitement, giveaways, and promotion will begin.

Now to leave you with a question: Who put the cookies in the cookie jar?
